About The Area
Windermere is the central location for tourism in the lake district and Wheatlands lodge is ideally situated a couple of minutes walk from the main village with its excellent shops and fine restaurants and bistros.
From the door-step there are many walks without the need to use your car, ask Sarah or Joe with their local knowledge.
An easy walk down into Bowness with more excellent shops & restaurants and home to the world of Beatrix Potter attraction.
Walk throughout Bowness to the lake shore where you will find the pier that takes the lake cruises from Bowness to Ambleside or Lakeside where you can enjoy the Aquarium of the lake or journey a little further on one of the steam trains on the Haverthwaite and lakeside railway.
There are many things to do to suit all tastes within easy reach either by car or on one of the many trips organised in the area, some of which will pick up from the Hotel.
It's easy to get away from the crowds too with stunning countryside just a short distance away and drives over Wrynose & Hardknott pass will bring you to the roman fort.
The historic market towns of Kendal & Keswick are within easy reach, as is Ambleside with it's fine array of outdoor clothing shops.
